Université Paris 8 will host the first session of RobotAct – Human-Robot Co-creations, a research-creation workshop series. This innovative project explores how robots and human actors interact on stage, focusing on their expressive potential, movement, and shared timing in performance.
Led by the EUR ArTeC project team, the workshops bring together artists, students, and researchers to investigate key theatrical and relational aspects of robotics, including:
- The behavior of animated anthropomorphic bodies vs. human actors
- The quality of gesture and movement in robotic performance
- The synchronization of human and machine temporalities
The first workshop aims to foster interdisciplinary collaboration, experimenting with how robots can enhance dramaturgy and reshape performance dynamics. Participants will form four creative teams, working with different robotic platforms. Each robot offers unique strengths and limitations, allowing participants to explore different dimensions of human-robot interaction. To ensure accessibility for all skill levels, an introductory session on visual programming (using Scratch and Choregraphe) will be provided.
By combining collective intelligence, artistic exploration, and technological experimentation, RobotAct seeks to redefine the boundaries of theater and robotics. Stay tuned as we dive into the fascinating world of robotic stagecraft!
